A Change For The Better
The store manager approached me yesterday about a major change to our shifts, and even offered me a different position. The shift change would have us working Monday through Friday, with no weekends. And instead of 6 to 3, we'd be working 11 to 8. This is to better work with the truck's schedule, and help us knock out entire pallets by the end of the day, eliminating the need to come in on the weekends.
The alternative was to shift to the markdown team, which sticks to the schedule we're used to, but is also subjected to working around customers when it's not markdown season, and putting out stock. So nothing I want a part in. I don't mind the stocking, but there's a ton of pressure to sell our credit cards and wear grody headsets and...blech. Too much stress!!
Also, my new schedule would give me more flexibility, especially in the mornings! I am an early riser, and can knock out a day's worth of activities by 10 AM on my days off. I get up at 3:30 as I have to be at work by 5:30, though I'll sleep until 4 or so on my days off. And then I'm up, feeding the cats, writing, editing, and doing the occasional survey. And working out, though it's been hard to schedule with my current shift. But now I can do that!! I can go in to work, having achieved my goals for the day, fresh and at my best! I am...weirdly stoked for this. The one thing I don't care for is leaving at 8 (though I always try to leave 10 minutes early), but I could get used to it.
I opted to switch to full-time to part-time, since I already work four days a week. What's one more day? And guaranteed weekends off?! Fuck yeah!
Oh, I'll also start taking my meds at breakfast now, instead of lunch. Along with my dwindling testosterone gel. I thought I'd be done with it by the end of the year, but now it's looking like I can stretch that out to late January.
The funniest thing about all this is that my manager got super excited when I was on board for the change, so much that she did a goofy little dance (she has ADHD, too) and I couldn't help but join in. My girlfriend insists that she must like me to have such a reaction, but I don't know if it's that deep. But hey, I'll take it.
I'm still on the lookout for a new job, but it's gonna be hard to beat my current pay and preferred setup, but never say never!
