Fired For Christmas?!

I missed out on a lot of drama Monday, due to being sick. The one time I call off! I knew something was off when I called that morning, because my manager was very brief with me and sounded upset. I originally planned on skipping Tuesday, but was feeling better and decided to risk it. And I'm glad I did, otherwise I would've been super confused Friday morning.

My manager wasn't there to let us in, which I thought was odd cause he normally works Tuesdays. And then my coworkers filled me in (along with a newer coworker who doesn't work Mondays). Turns out our manager was fired. There's no clear reason why, but supposedly the catalyst happened on Saturday.

I'm guessing it had something to do with us constantly being backed up and needing the help of temp workers, but the blame should lay more on my coworkers for goofing off. But there's more to the story.

According to my coworkers, our (now former) manager told them off before he left, saying it was basically their fault he got laid off. One of the guys told me that he didn't know things were that bad, otherwise he would've done more. And I'm like...bro. No you wouldn't. You play around too damn much. Y'all had plenty of time to turn things around, but you didn't.

So now we've got the two big managers stalking and reorganizing the stock room all week, and of course our store manager wasn't in Tuesday. Our daily meeting was also very brief, less than five minutes when it's usually ten, and only covered one topic. Everyone was on edge that day, and I could feel it.

I'm sure I'll learn more, either from the maintenance guy who is good friends with my manager, or from my coworkers who can't stop talking. The one net positive about this whole experience is that they're more productive. We got several pallets cleared, so shouldn't have an issue with backlogs.

My thoughts are all over the place, so this post probably isn't as coherent as I'd like it to be, but I had to get it out. This is just so much to process. The poor new guy disappeared for like thirty minutes when he heard the news, and a manager asked us if we said anything to upset him.

And to do all this in December...damn.
