Alkaid's Nook

One Doozy of A Day

I'm so damn tired, and I mostly blame Tuesday's shift for fucking up my sleep schedule. We had physical inventory, which required us to work from 4:30 PM to late into the night. We also had a ton of temps to help out, but I only learned yesterday that we didn't have enough scanners for everyone (lol), which explains why so many people appeared to be slacking off. I thought they were just being assholes, but they literally didn't have a means to help! Other than doing miscellaneous tasks.

Still, it was frustrating, watching those with devices talking non-stop or pausing every five minutes to check their phones. By ten PM, I saw that we still had half of the store to cover, and I was one of the few actively working so I could leave before one fucking AM. By 10:30, I realized that was a dying dream, and decided to cut my losses.

I asked my store manager if I could leave by eleven, citing safety reasons, as I rely on ride shares to get to and from work. I haven't had any dangerous encounters with drivers, but why risk it? And I don't know if I would've gotten a ride later or not; I don't make a habit of being out at night. I am very glad I did, as exhaustion aside (I was dozing off a lot by then), I later learned that inventory didn't end until damn near 3 AM! Fuck that!

The whole thing was so damn surreal to me at the time; last year, we had a smaller staff and didn't hire temps, yet we still managed to leave by 12 AM, an hour before the set goal of 1. Knowing now that we were short on devices, it all makes sense. But it makes me wonder what the fucking point of hiring temps was. You'd think we'd be done faster, which was what I thought when I saw all these people show up. Maybe things would've been different, had everyone been properly armed.

Here's hoping I have a new job before the next inventory! I told myself I'd quit before this one, but didn't have a job lined up. But I don't plan on being here by summer. I need a change, and something less taxing on my feet and back.

Oh, and yesterday I leaned that we're getting a new employee? Supposedly in my area. We'll see how things go, but we just got a new hire. Meeting new people so close together is exhausting. One is a lot already.

Anyway, I'm glad to be shifting back to our regular shifts. Inventory really messed up my flow.
